Amelia Ransome Neville scrapbooks, 1851-1924.

Contains newspaper clippings from San Francisco newspapers on local society, news, and history. There are many clippings on weather, ship and train arrivals and departures (including passenger lists), theater and performing arts, and obituaries. Also consists of invitations to social events and gatherings, dance cards, magazine and newsletter articles, performing arts playbills and programs, and the calling cards of Amelia Ransome Neville, and her husband. Volume 9 contains articles written by Neville in the Overland monthly. Volume 37 is a collection of monograms (including that of Albert Bierstadt), and volume 38 consists entirely of Bret Harte writings from various publications, and pieces about him and his work. Volumes 16, 28, and 29 contain material from Ireland and Denver.

Neville, Amelia Ransome, 1837-

Amelia Ransome Neville was born in 1937 in Columbus, Ohio, where her father was resident engineer of the Ohio Canal. In 1851, with her mother, she visited England and was presented to Queen Victoria. In Ireland she married Captain Thomas J. Neville, of the British Army. He resigned his commission to come to California with Amelia, and her family. She made her home in San Francisco for most of her life. She died in her grandson's home in Montana in 1927. Her memoirs were published in 1932, titled...
